Automated Comet Assay Analysis

Fully automated and unattended analysis of single cell gel electrophoresis samples is a matter of routine for Metafer CometScan. Cells are automatically detected and selected based on well defined parameters. Due to the unique classifier concept of Metafer the user has full control over any measurement parameter. Image background conditions are obtained, and data can be corrected for uneven background. All relevant features (tail moment, tail moment 'Olive', %DNA in tail, and more) are evaluated and stored. Metafer's convenient data display and export options allow for easy reporting and data extraction.

  • Unattended comet assay analysis
    Comets are detected based on user-defined morphological criteria and threshold between cells and background.
  • Convenient gallery and data display
    Detected comets are displayed in the cell gallery. Each comet can be relocated with a single mouse click. Data is displayed in convenient histograms and/or scatter plots, which are continuously updated as the scan progresses.
  • Sophisticated analysis algorithms
    CometScan fully automatically detects the limits between head and tail of the comet. It evaluates the image background parameters and rejects images, where the background is too inhomogenous. Intensity profiles are obtained, and all relevant parameters such as tail moment, or tail moment 'Olive' are automatically calculated.
  • Easy data export and reporting
    Data obtained with CometScan can easily be exported as raw data, ready to be processed by any external statistics software. Report templates allow for preparing customized reports, including images, results, and statistics.
  • Multiple exposure times
    CometScan provides the option to acquire images using multiple exposure times. This way images receive a wider dynamic range, which makes measurements more precise and reliable.

Metafer CometScan also includes a licence of CometImager, the interactive Comet assay analysis software. CometImager provides the same analysis options like CometScan, and is also available as a stand-alone system.
