Boston, MA, USA: MetaSystems Proudly Presents the New SlideFeeder x80
New slide feeder handles up to 880 slides

Dr. Thomas Lörch, managing director of MetaSystems and head of development, recently presented the prototype of the new SlideFeeder x80 on the VIII. MetaSystems distributor meeting in Boston, MA, USA. The new device is the successor of the highly successful first SlideFeeder, installed more than 150 times since its introduction in 2005.
With its capacity of handling up to 880 slides the SlideFeeder x80 tears down the limits of current slide feeder technology. Slide frames are stored in handy magazine boxes of 80 slides each, which can be easily loaded at the work bench and delivered to the system - even while it is still scanning. Users are free to select any capacity from 80 to 880 slides. Automated immersion oil dispenser and bar code reader are optional add-ons. Despite its extremely high capacity the new SlideFeeder x80 does not require considerably more space than the first model.
Production of the SlideFeeder x80 has already started, and the first installations are due in November 2010.

Detecting Spermatozoa in Forensic Samples
"Human spermatozoa detection remains a crucial part of the analyses performed by Search Technologists on sexual assault exhibits submitted to the forensic laboratory. [...] A comparison between the manual scoring and automated searches of human spermatozoa using Metafer following Sperm Hy-Liter™ staining indicated an excellent concordance (close to 100%) with manual spermatozoa counts [...]. The results of this study indicate that automated scoring of fluorescently stained human spermatozoa in mock sexual assault exhibits can be carried out reliably and reproducibly using welldeveloped classifiers for the MetaSystems Metafer image analysis software system."
